Although many women are highly competent, heck, AMAZING at what they do, women’s lack of confidence can get in the way of them doing the big, shiny, successful projects required to rise in a career or as an entrepreneur.
Confidence is subtly conditioned out of women from an early age from various factors, including societal expectations, stereotypes and internalized beliefs. Then this low confidence shows up in sneaky ways like reluctance to share ideas in a meeting, not volunteering for a big project, not applying for a job due to feeling under-qualified or procrastinating on launching that new product line.
Luckily, there are ways to overcome the confidence gap and kick a** in your career projects!
For women to be effective in managing projects and careers, we have to simultaneously address the inner barriers, like the confidence gap, AND outer barriers like project management skills.
Woman-Centered Project Management does both.
Women often try to build confidence/leadership/communication “inner” skills… but overlook the “outer” like project management skills.
OR the reverse!
They focus exclusively on the “outer” skills and take a string of productivity classes, project management trainings, and spreadsheet courses. Leaving out the confidence piece.
You gotta do both. The inner AND outer. Otherwise, you keep ping-ponging between procrastination-land and overwhelm-land with a lack of confidence…or have a string of failed projects due to a lack of skills.
